The evaluation example database EvaDAT is based on the guideline VDI 6201 and is a free platform for quality assurance of software-based structural analysis. Here, users and producers of software can interactively call up standardized, qualified and neutral evaluation examples for their own testing purposes and contribute to the uploading of further examples.
For software users in engineering offices, in construction companies, in public authorities, in research institutions, for students, for lecturers, for software producers, ...
The use of EvaDAT is completely free of charge. However, registration is necessary to have full access to the evaluation examples.
Yes, that's what the database lives on. EvaDAT is based on examples provided by users. You can either upload an example yourself or work on already uploaded examples.
Please contact us via e-mail under info@evadat.com.
Use the filter function using the classification according to VDI 6201. Alternatively, you can carry out a general keyword search using the search field.
The colour of the line indicates the status of the example. You can find an overview under "How it works".
An example is "qualified" if it has gone through the editing process (also called qualification process) and is classified as qualified by all three editors of the example. This means that the three independent experts using three different programs have discussed their results until they are sufficiently consistent. Deviations may well occur, but must be explained and evaluated.
Evaluation examples are used to evaluate the software. This includes verification examples as well as validation examples.
According VDI 6201: "Testing to prove that the software provides the correct result for the implemented mechanical model, i.e. that the software has been programmed correctly. Note: This also includes a comparison of analytical values."*)
*) "Reproduced with permission of the Association of German Engineers (Verein Deutscher Ingenieure e. V.)"
According to VDI 6201: "Proof that the software is suitable to be used for a specific task. Note: Validation requires assessment of the results for compliance with accepted technical rules of engineering practice and/or experiments."*)
*) "Reproduced with permission of the Association of German Engineers (Verein Deutscher Ingenieure e. V.)"
On all subject related topics. There are no restrictions. The more diverse the examples, the better.
If possible, the examples are intended to highlight one effect in particular, so that possible deviations in the results remain indentifiable (example: consideration of shear deformations in thick plates). If the examples are too complex, it is difficult to work out reasons for deviations.
The structure is divided into the following sections according to VDI 6201:
- Classification
- Problem description
- Reference solution
- Results
- Assessment
- References
In the menu of the evaluation example database you will find the submenu "Add example". Click on it and complete the input form according to your specifications.
You can just upload the problem description including the classification.
Either a field is already prepared in which you can add entries - such as in the case of design codes. Otherwise sen us an e-mail at info@evadat.com with a suggestion.
yes, you can if you are the creator of the example. Then you can make your input step by step and click on "Publish" at the very end.
The example is then listed under "My uploads" with a turquoise line on the left side and Draft appears in the title description. To publish, click "Publish".
You can provide your contribution to the evaluation example in either German or English. We believe that it is possible to understand a section in a language you may not (fully) master. This opinion is based on the additional graphical representation of the problem and/or the result, the many numerical values and a technically concise style of expression. If this results in a mixed language example, this is not a problem.
Each example for which an editor is still missing is marked with the icon "Become an editor". Click on this icon. For the editing you have to specify a software program which is not used yet. You will then automatically receive the read and write permissions for the selected example and you will be entered as an editor.
As soon as you are entered as an editor for the example, you can upload your results into the form in your section.
There are several ways to insert graphics. Note that not all possibilities are supported by all browsers.
Option 1) Click on the "Upload" button below the text field. You can then select a graphic from your PC and upload it. Once you have uploaded the file, the graphic will appear as a preview below the text field.
To integrate the graphic into your text, you can copy the path to the graphic (copy icon to the left of the preview) and enter this path in the image input (edit bar of the text field -> Image). Once the image appears in the text box, you can resize it or right-click -> Image Properties to change its properties.
Option 2) You can copy an image file from your computer (highlight file -> CTRL+C or right click -> Copy) and paste it directly into the text box using the CTRL+V key combination or right click -> Paste.
Make sure to upload your graphics in a good resolution (400 to 1200 pixels).
In the References section, click the "Add new reference" button. Select the type of source and then fill in the fields. Then save your input. In the text fields (problem description, result, etc.), you can then refer to the reference by specifying it in brackets (e.g. [1]).
The individual areas are generally assigned to different persons:
The creator is responsible for the general information, the classification and the problem description. Editors cannot edit these areas. The editors are responsible for their respective results. These can also not be changed by other editors or the creator.
In this respect, simultaneous editing is generally possible.
The areas of reference solution and assessment are an exception. In principle, these can be edited by all involved persons. However, simultaneous editing results in only the last status being saved for the example. However, nothing is lost: All previously introduced changes are stored in the editing history.
Regarding the reference solution: For examples of category B (numerical examples) and category E (systemic examples), the reference solution is created by compiling the results of all editors. The 1st editor is responsible for this. We therefore recommend that the 1st editor creates the reference solution and that changes made by the other participants are stored via the comments. This should also be done for examples of the other categories.
Regarding the assessment: We recommend that an editor (or the creator) writes an evaluation after setting all results and puts it up for discussion in the comments. Subsequently, the changes made via the comments can be incorporated and the rating can be saved.
You can use the comment function below the example. The entries will not be visible after the example has been published.
Below your result section you have the opportunity of uploading additional files such as the input file or a long version of the output file of the example. You can also provide a link to your company's own website, where the identical or a similar example can be found.
Yes, you can make your result visible already in the editing process. However, only registered users will be able to view it. To do this, you need to activate the "Make result visible for registered users while the example is in process" button in the Result section in the editing mode of the example.
Yes, as long as the new editor is part of the EvaDAT community. To do this, contact info@evadat.com and state the intended change. We will carry this out for you.
To be able to post a working group example, you must be a member of a working group (committee, association or similar). You can set this up in your profile or, if it already exists, the creator must add you. Then you can use "Select working group" as the last item when creating the example. Once you have selected you working group, you can define the number of editors for this example. The entry in the title is automatically made with the selected short title when the working group is created.
Yes, you can. As soon as you work on an example, you can choose which job you are doing it for.
Either under the menu item "Database/My uploads" or in your personal profile under "My uploads".
Yes. To do this, mark the example as your favourite and go to the menu item "Database/My favourites" or to your personal profile under "My favourites".
In your user profile you can set the topics on which you would like to be notified by e-mail.
If you have entered an incorrect password several times, you will be locked out for 30 minutes. After that, you can try to log in again.
You must have entered your organisation in your profile for it to be listed under "Community".
By default, the organisations are sorted according to the number of posted qualified examples. However, they can also be sorted to the name of the organisation or the number of users. To do so, click on the respective heading.
